Negative feedback: a user’s handbook

Providing negative feedback to a colleague is no easy thing. Especially given how it can easily become counterproductive to the goal, which is to modify a behavior so as to optimize a result. Feedback that works always exhibits a few basic features: it’s short and specific, it shows the path, it focuses on the inappropriate behavior, and it is offered with good intentions.
